One of the more prevalent spider species in our homes and gardens is the blackhouse spider.

A common species of cribellate Australian spider that was introduced to New Zealand and Japan is the black house spider, also known as the common black spider.

Although venomous, black house spiders are not regarded as dangerous. However, if bitten, the bite may result in discomfort and small-scale swelling.

The Black House Spider has a dark, robust appearance, and its carapace typically shows evidence of gray hairs. Although there is a wide range in adult sizes, females are generally larger than males.

That is, the female reaches a height of 18 mm and has 30 mm-long legs. On the other hand, male Black House spiders, like many other spider types, tend to be smaller (10 mm) and have longer legs relative to their body size than females.

Black House Spider Vs Black Widow Size Comparison

Many times knowing just the dimensions of the object does not really help in visualizing and imaging how large or small the object is.

Similarly, with spiders also need to have a reference to compare with while determining if the spider is large or small. First of all, we will compare the Black House spider with the Black Widow spider.

Black widow spiders are infamous spiders that can be recognized by their size as well as by the colored, hourglass-shaped mark on their abdomens particularly their leg span and total body length.

For instance, the female black widow measures 25–38 mm (1–1.5 in) in length. The male measures about 1.8 inches, which is about half the size of the female (3-4 mm). The average overall body length of a black widow varies from 3 to 10 mm. The Black widow spider’s leg span is also just under an inch long.

In comparison, the black house spider is a large, dark-colored spider that resembles a house rather than a widow. In terms of weight, both are similar.

Next, let’s contrast the spider with various other spider species, like the wolf spider. The spiders’ sprinters are wolf spiders.

The vast majority of the thousands of species that make up this family chase and pounce on their prey rather than spinning webs.

They are powerful, nimble hunters that live underground in burrows or leaf litter. In terms of size and mass, the wolf spider family is a sizable one.

In terms of size, the Wolf spiders, which can reach lengths of 2-3 inches, are bigger than the Black house spiders. The Wolf spider weighs less than an ounce and has an overall body length of less than 10 to 35 mm (0.4 to 1.38 in). On the other hand, the Black House spiders only measure up to 0.3-0.7 inches.

Black House Spider Vs Funnel-Web Spider Size Comparison

As a funnel web spider and the common black or brown house spider have somewhat similar appearances to the untrained eye, the latter is frequently mistaken for the former. Due to their shy nature, black-house spiders rarely bite people.

The Black-house spider is not regarded as dangerous or deadly, despite the fact that its bite is venomous and can injure people. The carapace of the Sydney Funnel-web is shiny, smooth, and glossy, with almost no hair.

In terms of size, the Funnel-Web spiders are much larger than the Black House spiders. For instance, while the Funnel spider is about 1.37 inches long in size, the Black House spider is only 0.039-0.7 inches long. Same in terms of leg span, the Funnel-web spider is much larger.

Black House Spider Vs White Tailed Spider Size Comparison

The White-tailed spider, which follows the Black house spider on the list, is a predator of that species. The blackhouse spider is their preferred prey, to put it another way. The White-tailed spiders are also visually striking, with a cylindrical body shaped like a cigar and a dark reddish-gray color.

The overall body length of the White-tailed spider is about 0.47-0.78 inches with a leg span of 1.1 inches. Whereas, the Black House spider is slightly smaller in leg span but quite smaller in overall body length.

Blackhouse Spider vs Redback spider size comparison

Lastly, we are comparing the Black house spider with the Redback spiders. One of the biggest and most frequently seen jumping spiders in western North America is the red-backed jumping spider.

Generally speaking, the redback spider is smaller than the black widow spider. In other words, a typical black widow spider is much bigger than a typical redback spider. For instance, black widow spiders can reach lengths of up to two inches, whereas redback spiders typically reach lengths of less than half an inch.

In comparison to the Black House spider, the redback spider is much larger in terms of all body length as well as weight. However, the legs of the Redback Spider are quite smaller in size than the Black house spider.
